The Comfort of a Home Environment

Why It Matters

Traditionally, Montessori schools are set up in home-like environments to support children’s emotional transition and provide a nurturing space. Our school’s home-inspired design fosters comfort and security, making it easier for children to feel at ease and adjust seamlessly to their Montessori journey. This approach, rooted in Montessori principles, allows children to build independence within a space that feels familiar and safe.

The Rich Heritage of Harrop House

Winter twilight by Tricia Romance

Our Historic Home

Built in 1870, the Harrop House is a classic colonial mansion constructed with local limestone, symbolizing the rich history of Milton, Ontario. This unique setting enhances our Montessori program, offering children a connection to their community’s heritage within an inspiring environment for learning and growth.

An Iconic Milton Landmark

The Harrop House originally stood on a vast 2,000-acre estate, embodying the timeless charm of a gracious era. The home’s distinguished features include large windows, deep window wells, and intricate woodwork that reflect a bygone period of craftsmanship and care.

A True Community Treasure

After being purchased by the Harrop family in 1912, this mansion became a cornerstone of the community. The Harrops raised their family here and contributed significantly to the local area, making this home a symbol of continuity and community.

A Place for Learning and Growth

Today, the Harrop House offers a peaceful, historic setting where children are guided on a path of exploration and learning. By transforming this mansion into a Montessori school, we honor its legacy while supporting the next generation’s development in a space filled with character and charm.
